The shadows are the main focus in these little drawings.
Shadows work to define shape and density when working with natural objects.
One assignment that I love for the results is to have students focus on and draw only the shadows. It can be a guessing game, then, to figure out what the subject was.
It seems my life, at this age, is defined more by the shadows than the lights. I wonder if it has always been that way?
I LOVE your sticks and stones drawings.
Thank you so much, Tammy!
Life defined by shadows more than light. Wow. I guess I’ve had that question in my mind too, but never really knew it. In my opinion shadows can be just as beautiful as the objects that cast them, but when the shadows appear and their objects are out of sight – that’s when things get mysteriously interesting.
Keep up the good work with your sketching!
Thank you, Sara!
For some reason, I’m drawn to black and white photography these days because of the shadows. I guess that must be a natural progression, huh? I love your drawings, Cindy — So glad you’re sharing them with us!
Thank you, Kate!
I see a face in the rock in the second row from the bottom. I’ve looked and looked but still see and ugly face. I’m sure is is my skewed eye sight. Great pencil drawings, Cindy. I find these so interesting. You really are talented.
Thank you, Yvonne! Once you see a face, it will always be what you see first…so I’m not looking!
🙂
So sorry I left the n out of your name. Would you please fix that if you have time? 🙂
It is a wise woman who knows that life is comprised of both shadows and light. So many seek only the light. Shadows can feel so overwhelming at times, but they teach deep lessons, we hope.
