Timeout for Art: Worry Stones

Standard

I have large quantities of these small, pale, flat-ish stones. Perhaps they have a name; if so, I don’t know it. My grandchildren would call them skipping stones, as their shape is good for bouncing over the surface of the water. I call them worry stones. I often have at least one in my pocket. When stress, nervousness or worry want to take hold, it’s good to have a bit of nature to grab on to, for support.

  1. Humm, maybe I need to put a stone in my pocket. I have lots of stones that I have gathered that are almost round or oval shaped. i love looking at them and keep them in a special place indoors and some that are outdoors where I see them every day.

  2. i love the stone and i love the name ‘ worry stones.’

when i am at the beach, i often bring back similar-shaped stones.. the ones in my area are almost white, so i often paint zebra stripes on them. yesterday i eyed a ‘container’ of those little stones and i wondered, ‘when will i stop long enough to paint all of you?’

speaking of, i am traveling and am using higher speed internet – wow, and i am very very late on the timeout for art post.. i’d best get back to finishing it now!

  3. I have had stones like these. I picked them up on a rocky beach in Washington state. I kept them in my pocket of my raincoat and would find comfort and memories in handling them. One was very dark and smooth, the other was white, almost spherical, and had a finely textured surface. I missed my “pocket rocks” more than the coat when the coat was lost!

  4. I hope your worries are not many now, Cindy, after you’ve held these sturdy stones and grounded in beauty and abundance. Fie on worries anyway! Nice picture.
